Background:
For the last ten years, credit unions have been fighting for legislation that will allow us to better serve members. Our efforts have been held back by only one group of people – bankers.
Your member of Congress has an opportunity for the first time in 10 years to VOTE for legislation on Credit Unions. This legislation will:
Allow credit unions to better serve religious organizations by helping provide more loans to faith based organizations.
Allow credit unions to serve our members who, through a loophole in the law, were cut off from their credit union membership.
Allow credit unions to serve people who are trapped in an endless cycle of payday lenders, some of which are partly owned by banks.
Allow credit unions some regulatory relief after years of seeing bills passed providing relief for other financial institutions – like banks.
Allow credit unions to serve people in communities where there is little in terms of financial institutions.
