Big Spring Community FCU Shows the Best of the 'Worst Dressed' for Charity
The employees of Big Spring Community FCU hosted a "Worst Dressed Contest" on Oct. 29 and 30 to benefit the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). The goal of the contest was to see who of the “Worst Dressed” fundraisers could raise the most money for CMN by having credit union members vote through the placing of donations into the corresponding pumpkin of their choice. While more than $670 was raised for CMN by the credit union across several activities, the “Worst Dressed Contest” pulled in an impressive $407.96 from all voters and participants!
Gulf Coast Educators FCU Makes $1,000 Donation for Education
Gulf Coast Educators FCU (Pasadena) recently donated $1,000 to the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation.
Metro Medical CU Makes Donations to North Texas Food Bank
In response to the empty cupboards continuing to plague local food banks in recent months, Metro Medical CU (Dallas), along with other merchants, partnered with AlphaGraphics Printing in July to collect 556-lbs.of food and $690 in cash donations to benefit the North Texas Food Bank.
Hundreds Show Up for School Supplies and then Some
The crowd this past Saturday at Unity One CU’s (Fort Worth) third annual school supply giveaway, Gear Up 4 School, was enormous! The credit union gave away drawstring backpacks full of school supplies to over 500 students to help them prepare for school today. Backpacks included rulers, pencils, erasers, glue, pens, crayons, map pencils, loose leaf paper, folders and UO literature. An estimated 700-1,000 people visited Unity One CU’s Fort Worth Stockyards branch. The line formed before day, and close to opening, it extended down the street and into another business parking lot.
Open for Business - Oak Cliff Christian FCU Serving Members
The Texas credit union movement added a new member to its growing family last month when Oak Cliff Christian FCU (Dallas) opened the doors to its first institution.  On a hot afternoon in July, credit union staffers, founders, employers and community members gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the credit union, a milestone event for all involved.
United Heritage CU Donates to Children's Miracle Network
The 2009 Children’s Miracle Network Auto Raffle wrapped up on May 30. United Heritage CU (Austin) was able to raise over $22,000 with the help of some very unique and motivational games for the branch staff and a generous member base. The credit union joined forces with the Austin Chapter of Credit Unions and contributed $22,000 to the overall $150,000 raised for CMN and the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas.
