We've got issues!
Join us June 5-7 in Washington, DC, as we march the credit union movement into our nation's capital for the 2013 Hike the Hill event.
This year's event will be at the Phoenix Park Hotel. Click HERE to reserve your room. The deadline for booking your room at the League block rate of $199 per night is May 13. Thereafter, we can't guarantee the discounted rate.
Hike the Hill includes an agenda full of briefings, meetings, and social events. This year's event arrives just in time for your to talk with the Texas delegation about the credit union tax status. A 500-page tax policy reform, just presented by several House Ways and Means Committee working groups to the Joint Committee on Taxation, touches on the credit union tax status among its analysis of some 400 different tax policies. Credit union leaders are encouraged to speak out about it as the Joint Committee considers tax policy recommendations.
Don't miss the opportunity to make sure your congressional leaders understand the issues important to you and your members.

Thank you to those credit unions who participated in the "Credit Unions Support Financial Education" campaign in April to celebrate National Financial Literacy Month. TCUF used this month-long event as the springboard to encourage all credit unions
to begin or expand their efforts of providing financial and consumer education to their members, local schools, and communities, and to raise awareness of the importance of financial education. We hope you had the opportunity to visit www.financialeducation.coop to make
your pledge or promise to be more financially literate. If not, it's not too late!
Chapters are eligible to apply for grants to assist with chapter educational programs, financial education outreach programs, or assistance with the Experience a Credit Union Campaign from TCUF. Each chapter is eligible for a grant of up to $2,000 per year.

Leadership Begins with Accountability
Transition managers into leaders! Managers traditionally tell others what to do. Leaders empower and inspire individuals to be actively engaged. Effective leaders generate peak performance. Peak performance demands responsibility and accountability. Your credit union's legacy is being written every day, what will it say?
Whether you realize it or not, everyone at your credit union has a leadership role, and everyone has an influence on the corporate culture. This program will assist in defining these roles and ensuring that your leaders write their own legacy. This program isn't designed just for Senior Management; it applies to the Board, back office and front-line staff. Basically, anyone who's a stakeholder in the credit union will benefit.

BSA, OFAC, and What Examiners Want to See
In 1789, Benjamin Franklin uttered one of the most quoted statements in history, "...but in this world nothing is certain but death and taxes." If Franklin were alive today, he would have added "examiners" to that now famous statement, a fact accepted by modern financial institutions. With recurring acts of terrorism and a continuing illegal drug trade, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations remain high on the regulatory "radar." Millions of dollars continue to be assessed in penalties for non-compliance. Join in as we look at BSA and OFAC with regard to the examiner perspective, including:
