The Texas Credit Union Foundation’s (TCUF) will hold a “Train the Trainer” workshop in San Antonio June 1.  Generations FCU is hosting the event at their 6000 N.W. Loop 410 location.

The credit union movement has lost one of its dedicated leaders.  Joe Glenn Thornton, 76, or more commonly known as “Joe T” by everyone, of Texarkana died May 15, at Scott and White Hospital in Round Rock, surrounded by family and friends.

The World Council of Credit Unions testified yesterday in a hearing convened by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to urge the agency to consider changes to its proposed Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) regulations that would reduce undue regulatory burdens on credit unions in other countries. Expanding the definition of "non-registering local banks" to include credit unions would help relieve the strain of unnecessary IRS reporting for non-U.S.-based credit unions already unable to serve members like those the IRS is seeking to tax due to membership restrictions.

Last fall, tens of thousands of disgruntled bank customers made the switch to increasingly popular credit unions.  While these newest members are just beginning to understand the many advantages of credit union membership, one Fort Worth man has been relishing the credit union difference for more than half a century.

Last week, the members of Independence Parkway FCU (IPFCU) voted to approve a proposed merger with Space City CU.  The combination of the two credit unions will create a $60 million in assets credit union, moving Space City up 26 places on the Texas Credit Union Department’s list of Texas credit unions.

Gina Prince has received the 2011 Texas Credit Union League (TCUL) Distinguished Service Award for the Coastal Bend Chapter of Credit Unions.  Prince has been a strong advocate for the credit union movement for over two decades.

Catalyst Corporate FCU will present a Q1 2012 Economic and Market Update May 23, at 2:00pm (CDT).  The session will review economic and interest rate develops that occurred over the first quarter and discuss strategic direction for the next twelve months. A review of the market impact on credit union performance issues and metrics will be conducted as well.

Two young men stood outside looking over the cars for sale in the lot.  “I want this one, but my credit score isn’t good enough,” one said to the other.  “Yeah, and I don’t even make enough to afford the monthly payment on this car plus the house that I want if I want to have a pet too,” the other replied.  Then, they both headed back inside to figure out the rest of their lives.
