The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Program was given a new name in 2011.  This award is now being called the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award.  And with a new name, this award now recognizes model credit union efforts to strengthen local institutions and materially improve the lives of non members through community outreach programs other than personal finance education.

Examples include:

  • Internship program
  • Charity fund raising
  • Support for public events
  • Donation to social service programs
  • VITA or EITC assistance
  • Lobbying or advocacy on behalf of K-12 financial education
  • Support for teacher training

As you document your activities, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • How did your project goals show social concern for the community?
  • How did the project help solve community problems?
  • How was it implemented?
  • What are the measurable results?
  • Is there evidence of a lot of time, talent and resources put into this project?
  • How were promotional materials targeted to the intended audience(s) and how did they communicate the project's goals?
  • How does the project demonstrate credit union values of mutual self-help, cooperation, economic empowerment and volunteerism?

Listed below are some guidelines and reminders for the 2013 program:

  • Credit unions must complete the entry form and should follow the format outline and include it with their entries.  Answering the questions is a key component of the entry and influences the judges in their decision making.
  • Credit unions must also complete a checklist and include it with their entry.

The deadline to submit entries for the 2013 award program is Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013.  You must include the entry form and checklist with your award entry. Please send to: the Texas Credit Union League, Attn: Linda Webb-Mañon, 4455 LBJ Freeway, Suite 1100, Farmers Branch, Texas 75244-5998
