Galveston Communities Rooted in Artistic Tree Carvings

Hurricane season is in swing and while we all need to be fully aware of the imminent threats and dangers posed by the storms, one community has found artistic inspiration in the aftermath of the storms. Donna Liebbert, Galveston Island Tree Conservancy member, enlisted a talented group of chainsaw sculptors to revisit the remaining trees standing in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike and transform them from reminders of the savage winds and rains into inspirational works of art that capture the life and creativity within the communities. More than 20 sculptures may be found around the streets and may also be viewed in a special PowerPoint presentation designed by, and including photos from, Jack Cross.
