Innovation & Collaboration Committee
Innovation

The committee, originally a League appointed Task Force, has transitioned to a standing Committee to explore the various ways the credit union movement can innovate and collaborate.

A few of the Committee’s activities have included the following:

  • Conducted a comprehensive review of collaborative models, CUSOs and organizations, both within and out of the credit union system, to determine optimum processes that contribute to effective innovation & collaboration.
  • Participated in a Innovation workshop facilitated by the Filene Research Institute to identify both barriers to innovation and successful tools for overcoming such barriers so that innovation and collaboration is encouraged to flourish.
  • Commissioned an in-depth survey, individual one-on-one interviews and focus groups among Texas credit unions to ascertain specific areas where Texas credit unions feel collaboration would be welcomed and supported. These interactions identified the following specifics among Texas credit unions:

Collaboration1. What percentage of credit unions are interested in collaborative efforts?
    2. What asset size of credit unions are most likely to collaborate?
    3. In what areas would credit unions be most interested in collaborating?
    4. What future collaborative efforts are credit unions interested in?
    5. What are the current hindrances to collaboration specific to credit unions?

  • Authorized the development of a web forum for sharing of credit union best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Authorized the first collaborative statewide credit union awareness campaign to increase consumer awareness of credit unions and encourage their utilization. The conduit for this is the “Experience a Credit Union” website provided and hosted free for each Credit Union Chapter.
