Teachers in the Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) are now better prepared to educate students on important money matters thanks to the Texas Credit Union Foundation (Foundation). Twenty-one teachers attended the Foundation’s recent train the trainer session, where they not only learned about the various units in the National Endowment for Financial Education’s High School Financial Planning Program (NEFE HSFPP), but also engaged in interactive exercises to ensure they deployed the most effective tactics for reaching students. This video includes a clip of Nickles reviewing theNEFE material, and a clip of an exercise where participants (teachers) present a unit in the NEFE curriculum.
First Light FCU Juntos Avanzamos Ceremony

FirstLight Federal Credit Union in El Paso has been designated as a “Juntos Avanzamos” credit union for its exceptional service to the Hispanic community. The Texas Credit Union League (the League) presented the credit union with the Juntos Avanzamos – or “Together We Advance” – flag June 8, representing the credit union’s participation in the League initiative. The program’s goal is to empower Texas credit unions to more effectively serve the needs of the emerging Hispanic market and provide modest-income families with an affordable alternative to expensive fringe financial service providers.

Shred Day at Texans Credit Union

Identity theft is a growing problem in this country, and to help educate consumers on the importance of properly disposing of documents containing sensitive information, Texans Credit Union hosted its annual shred day April 18. Shalissa Clary, public relations director for the credit union, explains in this video interview that any document containing personal information such as credit card statements, medical records, insurance information, etc. should be shredded. This video also features B-roll of documents being shredded. Some 400 vehicles dropped off documents to be shredded at the April 18 shred day, and the credit union estimates that it shredded 10-12 tons of paper, which will be recycled.
